Bedroom colour trends shift as designers move away from cool tones and bold statements

Interior designers report a clear shift in bedroom colour trends for 2026, with cooler tones and bold accent shades falling out of favour in place of warmer, more calming palettes.

Icy pastels, including pale blues and washed-out pinks, are increasingly seen as dated, while cool greys, once a dominant neutral, are losing popularity for feeling "cold and uninviting" in restful spaces.

Deep jewel tones such as dark blue, forest green and maroon are also declining, with designers noting they can become "visually tiring" and overwhelm bedroom interiors.

Instead, homeowners are gravitating towards earthy, soothing colours that promote relaxation. Popular alternatives include warm neutrals, soft beiges, creamy whites and tones such as olive green, terracotta and chocolate brown.

Design professionals say the shift reflects a broader move away from minimalist, cool-toned interiors towards more personalised, comforting environments. The emphasis is now on creating bedrooms that function as restorative spaces, balancing warmth, subtlety and long-term appeal over trend-driven aesthetics.
