A US furniture retailer has launched a high-stakes promotion offering up to $50m in refunds if both the University of Connecticut men's and women's basketball teams reach the NCAA championship games.

The initiative from Jordan's Furniture applies to purchases of furniture, mattresses and accessories made between 20 January and 16 February 2026, potentially benefiting around 20,000 customers across Connecticut.
The promotion is backed by insurance, limiting the company's financial exposure while generating significant marketing impact. It follows a similar campaign linked to the Boston Red Sox in 2007.
The offer hinges on both UConn teams winning their Final Four matches, with the women's team facing South Carolina and the men's team playing Illinois.
The campaign underscores how retailers are leveraging major sporting events to drive sales and customer engagement. Former president Eliot Tatelman said the concept aimed to boost the brand's presence in Connecticut, despite initially viewing the outcome as unlikely.
If successful, qualifying customers will receive full refunds, turning a promotional gamble into a major brand-building opportunity.
