The French home furniture market fell by 4.2% in February 2026, reinforcing a sustained downward trend despite a strong start to the year, according to IPEA data.
The decline follows a buoyant January supported by promotions and favourable calendar effects. However, February marks the fifth consecutive year of contraction for the month, with activity down more than 25% compared with 2021 levels.

Kitchens remained the only segment to record growth, while all other categories declined. Excluding kitchens and bedding, the market was down 2% year-to-date by the end of February.
Performance varied significantly across channels. Online-only retailers delivered the strongest results, while mid-range and premium furniture segments saw sharper declines. Kitchen specialists also showed signs of slowing after a prolonged period of growth.
Overall, the market edged down 0.2% across January and February, with February alone accounting for the majority of the drop.
The short-term outlook remains negative, impacted by geopolitical uncertainty, rising fuel costs and weaker consumer purchasing power. An unfavourable calendar effect in March, with one fewer Saturday than the previous year, is expected to further weigh on sales.
