Ortensia lamp blends sculptural wood design with atmospheric lighting

Porada presents Ortensia, a new suspension lamp designed by David Dolcini, previewed for 2026 as part of the brand's continued exploration of lighting as both function and statement.

Inspired by the layered structure of the hydrangea flower, Ortensia translates organic forms into a three-dimensional composition of wooden "petals". Crafted in solid Canaletta walnut and oak, the elements are carefully arranged to create a balance between solidity and openness, allowing light to filter through and produce subtle chiaroscuro effects.

The result is a piece that moves beyond traditional lighting, acting as a sculptural focal point within a space. Its interplay of light and shadow enhances the natural texture of the wood, reinforcing Porada's emphasis on craftsmanship and materiality.

This type of product reflects a broader shift within the European interiors sector, where lighting is increasingly positioned as a design-led category rather than purely functional. Decorative lighting is becoming central to spatial identity, particularly in high-end residential and hospitality projects, where statement pieces help define atmosphere and differentiation.

Ortensia also aligns with a growing demand for natural materials and tactile finishes. The use of solid wood, combined with a soft, organic form language, responds to consumer preferences for warmth, authenticity and longevity, particularly in contrast to more industrial or minimalist lighting trends of previous years.

At the same time, the lamp's sculptural presence speaks to the ongoing convergence of furniture, art and lighting. Designers and brands are increasingly creating hybrid objects that function as both utility and visual centrepieces, contributing to a more curated and expressive interior environment.

For retailers and specifiers, this evolution presents both opportunities and challenges. While statement lighting can drive higher margins and differentiation, it also requires a more narrative-driven sales approach, emphasising design story, materials and emotional impact.

With Ortensia, Porada reinforces its position within the premium segment, offering a product that combines artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary design language, meeting the growing demand for pieces that not only illuminate a space, but define it.
