The searches, done by Kenya's Competition Authority (CAK) carried out across Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu and Kisumu, resulted in the seizure of electronic evidence including laptops, mobile phones, hard drives and sales records for forensic analysis. The operation followed intelligence gathered through ongoing market surveillance.
According to CAK, the probe is examining potential unlawful conduct such as abuse of dominance and collusive tendering within the sector. The authority stressed that the raids do not constitute a finding of wrongdoing but form part of a broader investigation.
Director-General David Kemei said the intervention aims to safeguard consumers and ensure fair competition in a market serving millions of households. He noted that foam mattresses are essential goods and that the inquiry seeks to determine whether alleged practices are affecting affordability and accessibility.
CAK added that the rights of the affected businesses, including access to legal representation, were upheld during the process. Further action will depend on the outcome of the evidence review.
