Object Carpet has unveiled Mediterraneo , a new carpet collection developed with designers Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, redefining the relationship between indoor and outdoor living through sustainable material innovation.

Inspired by traditional Mediterranean weaving techniques, the collection translates the relaxed, sun-soaked character of southern Europe into contemporary residential and contract spaces. Designed to function seamlessly across interiors and exteriors, Mediterraneo responds to growing demand for flexible, hybrid living environments.
At the core of the collection is a newly developed yarn made from 100% recycled polyester, created from industrial waste and marine plastics. This material innovation allows the carpets to combine durability with a soft, tactile quality, while meeting stringent sustainability criteria. Compared to conventional polyester production, the process significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, and the carpets are fully recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.
The collection features seven weave patterns in up to four colour palettes, characterised by natural tones that evoke a Mediterranean aesthetic. Additional design flexibility is offered through made-to-measure options, enabling customised formats for a wide range of applications.
A defining feature is the integration of indoor and outdoor performance. The carpets are water- and UV-resistant, quick-drying and easy to maintain, making them suitable for terraces, pool areas and high-traffic commercial environments. This functionality reflects a broader shift in the interiors sector, where materials are increasingly required to perform across multiple contexts.
Mediterraneo Riviera introduces further design variation through coloured trim bands in shades such as yellow, pink, blue and green, adding a layer of visual expression while maintaining the collection's natural base palette.
According to the designers, the aim was to create a product that brings "nature into the home" while maintaining authenticity and lightness. Object Carpet's technical development enabled this vision by delivering a sustainable solution without compromising on performance or comfort.
The launch highlights key trends shaping the flooring and interiors market, including the rise of circular materials, the blurring of indoor-outdoor boundaries, and the increasing importance of customisation.
With Mediterraneo , Object Carpet positions itself at the intersection of design, functionality and sustainability, offering a solution that aligns with evolving architectural and lifestyle demands.
