Silentnight recalls electric blaket over smart plug electric shock risk

Bed manufacturer Silentnight has issued a product recall for its Smart Wi-Fi Plug used with heated blankets, citing serious safety concerns.

The recall, published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, affects the white A6 model plug sold between 2017 and 2022. The product was available individually, in multi-packs, and as part of bundles with Silentnight electric blankets.

According to the notice, the plug poses a "serious risk of electric shock" as it fails to meet required safety standards. The mains plug does not comply with BS 1363 specifications, and faults in the socket shutters may expose live electrical parts. Additional concerns include inadequate insulation distances between high and low voltage components.

The product does not meet the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.

Silentnight, through manufacturer Comfy Quilts, has advised consumers to stop using the product immediately and contact the company for further instructions.

The recall highlights ongoing safety and compliance challenges within the home and bedding sector, particularly for connected and electrically powered accessories.
