IKEA accelerates India expansion as furniture demand surges

India has been identified as a key growth market for IKEA, supported by more than €900m in investment to date. The company expects the local home furnishings market to grow by 50% by 2030, driven by urbanisation, rising incomes and evolving living standards.

To capture this opportunity, IKEA plans to open 25 small and medium-sized stores over the next five years, alongside developing large-format destinations near New Delhi. The expansion is expected to create hundreds of jobs and improve accessibility to furniture solutions across the country.

The strategy also includes strengthening digital reach, with online delivery recently extended to Tamil Nadu, unlocking access to millions of potential customers.

IKEA said its focus is on bringing affordable, functional design to a broader audience while adapting to local lifestyles. The move highlights intensifying competition in emerging interiors markets, where global brands are investing heavily to secure long-term growth.
