Thompson brings extensive industry experience, having previously served as Chief Commercial Officer at Hjort Knudsen and Managing Director at Ekornes, home to brands such as Stressless, Svane and IMG. His earlier roles at Heal's and Harrods provide additional retail expertise.
The company said the appointment reflects confidence in its future and ambition to accelerate growth. A spokesperson noted that Thompson's leadership is expected to guide SBI into an "exciting period" for the business.
Thompson described the role as a "pivotal" opportunity, highlighting plans to build on existing foundations, expand market potential, strengthen retail partnerships and further develop the group's brand portfolio.
He succeeds interim CEO Dave Knight, who oversaw a significant structural transformation and established a platform for future development.
SBI owns and manufactures well-known UK upholstery brands including G Plan, Parker Knoll, Duresta and The Lounge Co., with production sites in the UK and Lithuania and a distribution network spanning Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
