The European outdoor furniture market is transitioning into a period of stabilisation, following strong growth during the pandemic years, according to new data from CSIL.
The market exceeded €3 billion in 2025, but demand has begun to soften after the peak seen in 2021–2022, reflecting a broader normalisation in consumer spending patterns.

Lifestyle shifts continue to drive demand
Despite the slowdown, long-term fundamentals remain strong. Demand is increasingly shaped by outdoor living trends, with consumers investing in more functional and design-led exterior spaces that extend the home environment.
This shift is also influencing the product mix, with upholstered outdoor furniture growing faster than traditional categories, and emerging segments such as outdoor kitchens and decorative elements gaining traction.
Key markets and global trade dynamics
Market performance varies across Europe, with Germany, the UK, Italy and France representing the largest national markets.
At the same time, the sector remains highly globalised. Imports and exports account for a significant share of activity, although a decline in exports to the United States, particularly in metal furniture, has impacted growth.
Contract segment gains momentum
While retail remains the dominant sales channel, the contract sector, including hospitality, offices and marine applications, is steadily expanding, offering new growth opportunities for manufacturers.
Outlook: short-term dip, mid-term recovery
CSIL forecasts a slight market decline in 2026, followed by a moderate recovery in 2027, suggesting that the sector is entering a transitional phase rather than a prolonged downturn.
Overall, the European outdoor furniture market is evolving from rapid expansion to a more balanced, lifestyle-driven growth model, where design, functionality and adaptability will play an increasingly central role.
