British luxury bedmaker Vispring is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2026, marking more than a century of innovation, craftsmanship and global growth.
Founded on the invention of the pocket sprung mattress in 1901, Vispring has played a pivotal role in shaping modern sleep comfort. The innovation, developed by engineer James Marshall, revolutionised mattress design by allowing each spring to respond independently, a principle that remains central to the brand today.

Now based in Plymouth, UK, Vispring continues to manufacture every bed by hand to order, with nearly 200 craftspeople preserving traditional techniques such as hand side-stitching and hand-nesting springs. The company remains one of the few manufacturers to produce its own springs in-house, reinforcing its commitment to quality and durability.
The brand has built a strong international presence, with distribution in 65 countries and placement in some of the world's most prestigious hotels, including The Dorchester and Beverly Hills Hotel. Its heritage also extends to iconic ocean liners such as the Titanic and Queen Elizabeth II.
A defining feature of Vispring's offering is its use of natural materials, including British wool, cashmere, horsetail and bamboo, reflecting both comfort performance and a growing focus on sustainability.
Reflecting on the milestone, managing director Martin Gill highlighted the company's ambition to expand globally while maintaining its core values of craftsmanship and quality.
With a legacy rooted in innovation and a continued emphasis on bespoke production and longevity, Vispring's 125-year milestone underscores its position as a benchmark in the luxury bedding sector.
