German bedroom specialist implements temporary price surcharge due to ongoing geopolitical tensions

A German bedroom specialist has announced the introduction of a temporary 4.6% price surcharge on its entire product range from 15 April 2026. The company sees itself forced to do so by the ongoing geopolitical tensions, which are putting enormous pressure on the international procurement, energy and logistics markets.

In a letter to its business partners, the management of the Bad Saulgau-based furniture manufacturer Martin Staud explains that the current cost increases are now affecting the entire value chain. "The price adjustment results from additional costs at our suppliers and logistics service providers being passed on to us," said the Martin Staud GmbH team led by managing director Dirk Schmidtmeier.

Impact of oil and gas prices
At the heart of the problem lies the sharply increased prices for oil and natural gas. These energy sources are crucial for the production of semi-finished chemical products such as resins, adhesives and plastics. This has a direct effect on the purchase prices of chipboard and melamine-faced panels. In addition, high energy prices in the metal processing sector are causing sharply higher costs for aluminium and steel components.

Not only have materials become more expensive; transport costs throughout the supply chain have also increased significantly. "The current developments are characterised by high dynamics. The resulting cost increases are now reaching a level that we can no longer fully absorb ourselves," the management writes.

Temporary measure
The 4.6% surcharge applies to all orders received on or after 15 April 2026. Martin Staud stresses that it is a temporary measure. "As soon as the underlying market conditions improve sustainably, we will reassess the situation."

Despite the challenging market conditions, the manufacturer says that supply capacity is not currently in question. "We are currently able to deliver without restrictions. Together with our suppliers, we evaluate the situation in the commodity market every fortnight to continue to act responsibly."

Relaunch
The announcement comes almost exactly one year after the successful 'relaunch' of the brand in March 2025. In the letter, Martin Staud GmbH underlines the value of the long-term and transparent cooperation with its dealers in the mid- and high-end segment, as well as in the digital market.

Martin Staud GmbH is a renowned German manufacturer of wardrobes and bedroom systems. The company is known for its high-quality workmanship and innovative designs. The sales organisation is divided into different segments, led by sales directors Nils Czekay (Wholesale & Discount), Ingo Tillmanns (Middle & Premium Brands) and Michael Jung (Digital Markets & Marketing).
