Salone del Mobile.Milano is set to introduce Salone Contract, a new long-term initiative focused on one of the most dynamic and strategically important segments of the interiors industry. The project debuts in 2026, with a masterplan developed by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA.

Positioned as a response to the growing complexity of the contract furnishing sector, the initiative reflects a shift in value from individual products to integrated systems combining design, technology, data and services. The global contract market is currently valued at around €68 billion and is expected to exceed €110 billion over the next decade, highlighting its rapid evolution.
Rather than a traditional exhibition format, Salone Contract is conceived as a research-driven platform, aimed at analysing emerging dynamics and supporting the industry in navigating changing business models. As Rem Koolhaas explains, the project builds on the legacy of world fairs as spaces for experimentation and collaboration, reinterpreted for today's shifting geopolitical and economic landscape.
The 2026 edition will focus on culture, business and networking, featuring a thematic route through exhibitors already active in the contract sector, alongside a dedicated forum and a Lectio Magistralis by Koolhaas. A targeted international programme will also bring around 250 selected global players to Milan, supported by a new digital matchmaking platform.
Looking ahead, Salone Contract will expand beyond Milan through an international roadshow starting in September 2026, engaging key markets linked to large-scale and complex projects, with the first full exhibition planned for 2027.
In Europe alone, contract furnishing represents a production value of over €13.5 billion, with strong growth driven by sectors such as hospitality, healthcare, education and marine. The initiative underscores the increasing importance of customisation, system integration and cross-sector collaboration in shaping the future of the industry.
