Ikea has issued a recall for its Smöjträd chandelier candles after identifying a manufacturing defect that could pose a fire hazard. The unscented candles may contain additional hidden wicks, which can ignite unexpectedly and produce larger flames.

The affected products were sold between June 2025 and early March 2026 in several European markets, including Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden. The candles come in multiple colours, including beige, green, light green and pink.
According to the company, the extra wicks embedded in the wax can increase the intensity of the flame, raising the risk of fire or burn injuries. Customers are advised to stop using the candles immediately.
Ikea is offering full refunds to all affected customers, even without proof of purchase. The retailer is also encouraging buyers to inform others who may have received the product.
The recall highlights ongoing quality control challenges in mass production, as well as the importance of rapid response measures to ensure consumer safety.
