French furniture retailer Alinéa has launched a sweeping clearance sale of up to 50% off, as the company faces an uncertain future that could impact around 1,200 employees. Across its remaining 36 stores, customers are flocking to buy discounted sofas, tables and home décor items, with some products reduced by as much as 70%.

Behind the heavy discounts lies a critical moment for the brand, which has been under judicial restructuring since November 2025. A court decision expected on March 31 will determine whether Alinéa can be rescued, partially sold, or forced into full liquidation.
Once positioned as a mid-range alternative to Ikea, Alinéa has struggled to compete in a squeezed market. The retailer has been caught between low-cost giants and higher-end brands, while declining demand, rising competition from online platforms, and weaker consumer spending have worsened its position.
A potential takeover proposal could save part of the business and preserve some jobs, but uncertainty remains high. For employees, the clearance sale signals more than discounts—it marks a decisive moment for the future of the company and highlights broader challenges across French retail.
