The job reductions will mainly affect central functions, as the company seeks to streamline decision-making, reduce costs and reinforce its focus on core retail operations. CEO Juvencio Maeztu said the business had "grown too complex" and needed to become more agile in a changing retail environment.

The move supports Ingka's broader strategy to maintain affordability, with more than €2.1 billion already invested in price reductions. At the same time, the group continues to expand its physical presence, now operating over 640 customer meeting points across 32 markets.

Despite the cuts, Ingka plans to open up to 20 new stores by September, creating around 500 jobs, while also investing in digital capabilities and logistics to enhance customer experience.

The restructuring reflects ongoing pressure on retailers to balance cost control with growth, as consumer demand remains cautious and competition intensifies.
