DNA breakthrough leads police to suspect in Nuremberg furniture store burglary

German police have identified a suspect following a burglary at a furniture store in Nuremberg earlier this year. The incident occurred between 7 and 9 February 2026, when an unknown individual forced entry into a store in the city's southern district and stole cash from a register.

The damaged register was later discovered outside the premises. Investigators from the Central Franconia Criminal Investigation Department carried out forensic examinations at the scene, securing DNA evidence that proved key to the case.

Authorities have now identified a 42-year-old German man as the suspect. Police are continuing their investigations to determine whether he may be linked to other burglaries in the Nuremberg area.

The case highlights the role of forensic analysis in advancing criminal investigations, with officers using specialised units to follow up on leads and establish connections to potential wider criminal activity.
