Strike puts pressure on DHL Express as staff demand better pay deal

A large part of DHL Express' employees laid off work on Monday. According to trade union FNV, there was still limited driving with minimal staffing, but a significant part of the work was at a standstill.

The strike stems from dissatisfaction with the negotiations around a new collective labour agreement. Employees find the company's wage proposal insufficient. DHL Express wants to increase salaries by 3.25 per cent from 1 July and add another 3 per cent in 2027. Unions consider this offer too low.

According to FNV, the willingness to take action among staff is high. That is why a relay strike has been chosen, with employees laying down work at different times. Trade union CNV is also involved in the actions.

DHL Express expressed earlier its disappointment with the strikes organised by the unions. The company mainly delivers urgent shipments of documents and parcels worldwide. The actions underline rising tensions between staff and employer, while the collective bargaining negotiations have not yet produced a breakthrough.
