Payments provider Nexi Germany has appointed Dirk Schmidt as CEO of orderbird GmbH, effective 1 March 2026, marking a new phase of growth for the hospitality-focused POS platform.
Schmidt succeeds David Feichter, who has decided to leave the company to pursue a new professional opportunity outside the Nexi Group.

Focus on growth and integration
In his new role, Schmidt will take overall responsibility for orderbird, with a focus on strategy, growth and profitability. He will also work to strengthen collaboration within the Nexi DACH region, reporting directly to Thomas Spreitzer, CEO Nexi DACH, and joining the regional leadership team.
Nexi expects Schmidt to play a key role in accelerating growth, expanding the platform's SaaS and POS footprint, and deepening the integration of Nexi's payment solutions across orderbird's ecosystem.
Industry expertise
Schmidt brings extensive experience in payments, POS systems and the hospitality sector, having held senior and C-level roles at companies including HRS, SIDES, GASTROFIX and Lightspeed. Earlier in his career, he worked at Novell, where he served as General Manager and VP EMEA.
"Dirk is a well-respected hospitality expert whose combination of product and market knowledge is exactly what we need to accelerate growth and strengthen our go-to-market strategy," said Spreitzer.
Strengthening the value proposition
Key priorities for Schmidt will include refining orderbird's value proposition for independent software vendors (ISVs) and merchants, while leveraging Nexi's capabilities in payment acceptance, partnerships and data-driven services.

Schmidt will officially represent orderbird in his new position at INTERNORGA 2026 in Hamburg, one of the leading international trade fairs for the hospitality industry.
With this appointment, Nexi aims to further position orderbird as a key platform in the digitalisation of hospitality and retail payments across the DACH region.
