Furniture and home-related categories contributed to this growth, with furniture and décor up 3%, household appliances rising 5.2%, and home textiles increasing 2.9%. Overall activity intensified, with 3.2 billion transactions (+10%), although the average order value fell slightly (-3%), suggesting more frequent but smaller purchases.
E-commerce remains strategically important, but challenges persist, including competition from Asian platforms, regulatory pressures, and environmental concerns.
A key trend shaping the future of online retail is the rise of artificial intelligence in shopping. About 31% of online shoppers now use generative AI, especially younger consumers. AI is mainly used before purchases to compare products, save time, and support decision-making, particularly for lower-cost or everyday items.
However, adoption is not universal. Concerns about data privacy and neutrality still limit wider use, though trust increases among regular users.
Overall, e-commerce continues to expand, driven by digital habits and innovation, but must adapt to new technological, competitive, and regulatory dynamics.
