Vietnam’s wood industry increases investment to strengthen global position

In 2025, exports of wood and wood products reached nearly $17.3 billion, surpassing the $17 billion mark for the first time and representing a 6% increase compared with 2024. Vietnamese wood products are now exported to 45 markets worldwide, with the United States, Japan and China accounting for roughly 65% of total exports.

The United States remains the largest market, generating $9.06 billion in revenue, equivalent to about 45% of total export turnover, and marking a 4.1% year-on-year increase.

Experts note that the industry is entering a new phase where growth through expanding production volume is becoming more limited. As global markets introduce stricter regulations related to traceability, emissions and sustainability, Vietnamese manufacturers are increasingly investing in greener production methods, digitalisation and improved product design.

Wooden furniture currently represents the largest share of export value, reflecting improvements in manufacturing capabilities and the ability of Vietnamese companies to meet technically demanding orders.

Regional production hubs are also performing strongly. In Dong Nai province, wood exports reached $2.7 billion in 2025, a 34.8% increase compared with the previous year, making the province the second-largest wood exporter in the country.

Looking ahead, industry leaders emphasise the importance of developing Vietnamese brands, investing in design and technology, and expanding in both international and domestic markets as the sector adapts to evolving global standards and competition.
