Japanese furniture manufacturer Nagano Interior will present a series of new designs at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, further developing its exploration of materiality, craftsmanship and comfort through the philosophy of Wa—the Japanese concept of harmony and balance.
Based in Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture, the company continues to refine its distinctive design language, where light wooden structures interact with generously upholstered forms. This year's presentation focuses particularly on new surface treatments and material innovations.

Among the highlights is the introduction of two new finishes for Kusu wood (camphor), a material prized for its aromatic fragrance and rich texture achieved through traditional hand processing. The new finishes include Kuromon (Black Gate), a deep black tone that adds a refined character to the wood, and Oborozuki (Misty Moon), a lighter shade inspired by the diffused glow of the moon filtered through night fog.
Nagano Interior also introduces Kokura-Ori, a traditional Japanese textile made from 100% cotton. Known for its durability and compact weave, the fabric features a distinctive structure with a higher number of vertical warp threads than horizontal weft threads. This technique produces a subtle striped pattern with a refined three-dimensional effect created by alternating light and dark tones.
The textile is applied to several pieces, including the Coupé stool, one of the brand's most recognisable designs. In its new configuration, with a black frame and contrasting upholstery, the stool adopts a more sophisticated aesthetic compared to the original version in light wood with colourful fabrics. This reinterpretation expands the design's versatility, enabling it to integrate more naturally into refined interior environments.
Also presented at Salone will be the Castello bookcase, designed by Giovanni Levanti. The modular system consists of foldable oak elements that can be used individually or combined in stacked, linear or mirrored compositions. Suitable for placement both against a wall or as a freestanding element, Castello introduces an architectural dimension into domestic spaces while offering significant compositional flexibility.
The new collection further includes two seating designs: the Aeris armchair and the Cocoon sofa, both centred on the relationship between structural lightness and upholstered comfort.
The Aeris armchair features a wide padded seat and half-armrests covered in leather, designed to adapt to different postures and body types. Its armrest configuration also allows the chair to hook onto a tabletop, facilitating cleaning and improving functionality in everyday domestic use.
Meanwhile, the Cocoon sofa is conceived as a welcoming, enveloping seating piece intended for extended relaxation. A slender wooden frame emphasises the softness of the cushions, while denim upholstery in Kokura-Ori fabric enhances the sofa's tactile qualities, reinforcing its identity as a space for calm and comfort.
Nagano Interior will present its latest designs at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Pavilion 14 – Stand E40, showcasing how traditional Japanese craftsmanship continues to shape contemporary furniture design for global interiors.
