São Paulo Studio redefines its space through storytelling and nature

Pitá Arquitetura has unveiled a transformed office in the historic Edifício Itália in São Paulo, turning the workplace into a dynamic laboratory for design and experimentation. Since relocating in 2020, the studio has used the space to explore textures, colours, and forms, testing ideas and reaffirming its belief that details shape experiences and the way people interact with interiors.

The main meeting room, developed in partnership with Tramari, features a double-layer fabric wall covering that subtly depicts everyday scenes of São Paulo, including downtown buildings, the popcorn, the República Metro, and streetlights along Avenida São Luís. The room also incorporates acoustic foam throughout, isolating sound from the street and work areas to ensure focus, comfort, and privacy without compromising aesthetics.

The renovation extended to the reception and café areas. A rug that had accompanied the studio from its previous office was repurposed into café cushions, giving it new life while preserving memory. The former foliage mural was replaced by a new pattern designed by Pitá, renewing the atmosphere while maintaining the studio's identity.

In a smaller meeting room, an antique light fixture sourced from a vintage fair anchors the design. Inspired by the ornamented ceilings of classical theatres such as the Theatro Municipal, the ceiling was painted in collaboration with Porú, establishing a dialogue between Pitá's contemporary work and the tradition of architecture as expression. The ceiling acts as a scenic element, framing ideas, discussions, and decisions within the room.

Another meeting room, with views of Avenida São Luís, takes inspiration from water and vegetation. The wallpaper revisits the historic rivers of downtown São Paulo, now buried and altered by urbanisation. From afar, the design appears organic, while up close, it reveals patterns of native Brazilian leaves including pau-brasil, palmito-jussara, aroeira-pimenteira, and copaíba, reminding visitors of the natural layers that continue to sustain the city.

Finally, the hallways and restrooms became canvases for creativity through colour and texture. Each choice was carefully considered to evoke sensations and highlight the poetic qualities of everyday life, giving the office a renewed face while preserving its unique character.

Through this renovation, Pitá Arquitetura has created a space that is at once functional, expressive, and connected to both the urban and natural landscapes of São Paulo.
