Ulrich and Bettina on design trends, strategies and participation at Partnertage Ostwestfalen

WIMEX sees shift away from dark furniture as colour and light return to interiors

As European interiors continue to evolve, furniture companies are increasingly exploring how colour, light and functionality can transform everyday living spaces. WIMEX, a German manufacturer known for its wardrobe and bedroom solutions, is approaching the upcoming Partnertage Ostwestfalen with a focus on practical innovation and aesthetic freshness that reflects these industry trends.

Colour and light take central stage
Ulrich Börger, Managing Director of WIMEX, explains that this year the company is responding to a distinct shift in customer preferences. 'We are closely observing current kitchen trends and popular designs, drawing inspiration from neighbouring sectors for our own developments,' he says. 'Challenging times have brought a demand for brighter colours and more subtle oak finishes, and we see these influences shaping the wider furniture market.'

Bettina Reinkenobbe, Export Manager at WIMEX, adds a complementary perspective, highlighting the move beyond the previously dominant dark tones. 'Colours are coming! After a long time of dark colours like graphite, we are adding the soft cashmere colour to our ranges as well as colourful glass fronts in new shades. Light aspects on the doors are also a new development,' she notes.

The duo emphasises that these changes are not purely decorative. 'Given the current internal and external situation, I think we are presenting an abundance of new ideas, particularly developments in lighting, various glass innovations, and the new bedroom designs, which represent as much newness as we have not seen at several previous fairs,' says Ulrich, noting the diversity of innovations on display.

Meeting practical challenges
Bettina highlights the practical pressures facing furniture companies today, particularly the impact of supply chain disruptions and rising transport costs. 'We all face similar challenges nowadays. The wars around the world are affecting supply chains and putting pressure on transport costs,' she says.

These challenges, however, have encouraged WIMEX to focus on solutions that combine functionality with design, especially for smaller living spaces. The bedroom segment, for instance, is evolving rapidly, with urban apartments driving demand for clever storage and adaptable layouts. 'The fastest and most innovative suppliers will outperform the slower ones,' Ulrich explains. 'The final customer is looking for someone who can solve storage problems in compact apartments.'

While WIMEX is not presenting experimental concepts at Partnertage Ostwestfalen, the company is introducing its new Schrankzeit range, adding fresh colours and practical features. 'We have a new stand for our brand-new Schrankzeit range, adding again new impulses and colours,' Bettina notes. Ulrich adds that alongside design updates, the company is also enhancing its online sales strategies and exploring technical developments, recognising that digital channels are becoming increasingly important for reaching professional clients across Europe.

Looking to the future
Participation in industry events informs WIMEX's long-term strategy and vision. 'We're thinking about the furniture market in 2030, intelligent logistic concepts are highly on demand,' Ulrich says. 'We have to find the best solutions for very fast deliveries without any complaints and competitive prices. Therefore, the industry and retail have to work together on the strongest and best solutions.'

By blending strategic foresight from Ulrich with the sales team's practical expertise, WIMEX continues to demonstrate how design innovation, operational efficiency, and market awareness can come together to shape the future of interiors. 'We're presenting a broad spectrum of new ideas, from light developments to glass innovations and new bedroom concepts,' Ulrich concludes, 'and it's exciting to see how these elements come together to shape the future of interiors.'
