Bulgarian furniture sector to increase prices by 3-5%

Furniture prices in Bulgaria are expected to rise by 3–5% as strong demand driven by the construction sector continues to boost the industry.

According to data from the Chamber of the Furniture Industry, the Bulgarian furniture market is expanding despite difficulties and bankruptcies affecting companies elsewhere in Europe. The growth is largely linked to increased construction of new homes and hotels, which require furnishing.

At a major furniture manufacturer in Ruse, HR manager Hristo Darov said orders in 2025 are expected to grow by more than 15%. He explained that rising property purchases are a key driver of demand as many buyers need to furnish newly acquired homes.

However, higher labour costs, material prices and logistics expenses, along with new EU directives on wood traceability, are pushing furniture prices upward.

Delivery times vary depending on the type of order. Mass-produced furniture typically takes one to two weeks, while customised items can take 30 to 40 days.

Labour shortages remain a challenge for the sector. To address this, some companies have recruited workers from countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Uganda and Nigeria, while also investing in automation and new technologies.

Current design trends favour natural colours, minimalist shapes and practical furniture solutions.
