Italian lighting brand Martinelli Luce is bringing back one of its historic designs with the reintroduction of the Pallino table lamp, originally created by designer Elio Martinelli in the early 1970s.

First developed during a period when Italian design was defined by bold colours, innovative materials and experimental geometries, Pallino stood out for its restrained simplicity. The compact lamp combines two clear geometric elements: a slender curved base and a spherical reflector, forming a small architectural object designed for desks, bedside tables and intimate living spaces.
The adjustable globe-shaped reflector directs light precisely, creating the impression of a "curious gaze" observing the surrounding space. The lamp's name reflects this playful character, "Pallino," meaning a small ball, reinforcing its approachable and almost companion-like presence within the interior.
"Reintroducing Pallino means bringing back into today's homes a touch of the formal lightness and chromatic boldness that made Italian design great," said Emiliana Martinelli, President of Martinelli Luce. "It means choosing an object with a story to tell, one that still looks ahead together with those who own it."
Faithful to the original concept, the new edition maintains the lamp's timeless design and proportions. The base is made from injection-moulded ABS, while the spherical reflector is crafted from stamped aluminium with a liquid-painted finish. The reflector is adjustable and fitted with an E14 bulb, allowing the light to be directed as needed.
Measuring 240 mm in height, with a base diameter of 80 mm and a 125 mm sphere, Pallino remains a compact yet expressive lighting object. The lamp is available in a range of vibrant colours including orange, white, blue, yellow and red, reflecting the chromatic energy of the design era in which it was conceived.
By reintroducing Pallino, Martinelli Luce reconnects contemporary interiors with a piece of Italian design history, demonstrating how classic lighting designs can remain relevant across generations.
