Humanscale brings human-centered design to San Francisco with new showroom

Global ergonomic furniture brand Humanscale has opened a new San Francisco showroom, designed in collaboration with architect Suchi Reddy, founder of architecture and design firm Reddymade. The ground-floor space reflects the company's commitment to human-centred design, sustainability and workplace wellbeing, while serving as a meeting point for the local design community.

Located at 10 Jackson Street, the showroom strengthens Humanscale's presence in one of North America's most influential design markets. Conceived as both a retail environment and a working showroom, the space allows designers and clients to experience the brand's performance-driven workplace solutions in real-life settings.

The interior layout is organised into a series of open yet intimate zones where visitors can explore seating, sit-stand workstations and workplace accessories across a variety of configurations. Curved and semi-circular forms structure the space, enabling flexible arrangements that demonstrate how Humanscale products support movement and adaptability throughout the working day.

Architect Suchi Reddy approached the design with an emphasis on clarity and atmosphere, creating a calm and intuitive environment where products remain the focal point.

"Our San Francisco showroom brings the design community together, creating a space to explore Humanscale's products and materials while fostering connection, conversation, and design innovation," said Rhys Jones, Associate Creative Director at Humanscale.

Reddy added: "We aimed to create a calm, intuitive space where the products remain the focus, using subtle, sustainable interventions that reflect Humanscale's philosophy."

Material choices throughout the showroom prioritise sustainability and minimal intervention. The original concrete flooring has been preserved, while existing glass elements have been refurbished rather than replaced. Modular wall systems by San Francisco startup Modwall create flexible work settings while maintaining visual openness.

Textiles from Kvadrat, including the Rocket fabric, introduce colour and warmth to the interior. The showroom also features a dedicated Kvadrat area that highlights the relationship between furniture and textile design.

The project continues an ongoing collaboration between Humanscale and Suchi Reddy, who has previously designed showrooms for the brand in Chicago, Paris, Sydney and Shanghai. Across these projects, Reddy has prioritised female-led design and construction teams, working with women-owned and women-led practices in each location to promote inclusive leadership within the design industry.

With its San Francisco showroom, Humanscale aims to create not only a brand space but also a platform for collaboration, reinforcing its philosophy that thoughtful design, sustainability and human wellbeing are central to the future of the workplace.
