Danish design company seeks new investor to drive international growth

A Danish design company is bringing in a new investor as it looks to strengthen international sales after a challenging start since its launch in 2022.

Aakjaer Furniture, founded by Nanna Aakjær to revive her grandfather's design legacy, has faced rising costs and weak consumer demand during its first years of operation. The business reported a loss of DKK 197,000 in 2024, with a larger deficit the previous year, while figures for 2025 have yet to be released.

To support its next phase of development, the company is bringing Danish sales organisation Your Brand Partner in as a co-owner. The move follows the exit of two investors from the Danish television programme 'Løvens Hule'.

Aakjær said the new partnership is aimed at accelerating exports and building an international brand. The company already has distribution agreements in Hong Kong and Taiwan and works with dealers in England, Iceland and Sweden. Plans are also underway to enter the German and Japanese markets.

Currently sold through around 30 retailers, Aakjaer Furniture manufactures its products in Denmark and other European locations as it seeks to expand beyond its domestic market.
