Grant Berry said to the Big Furniture Group he and his family travelled to Dubai to celebrate his wife's 60th birthday but were unable to leave after flights were cancelled amid Iranian strikes targeting the United Arab Emirates. The attacks came in response to US and Israeli military action against Iran.
Berry said debris from intercepted missiles and drones has fallen across parts of the city, including near major landmarks and Dubai International Airport.
'We are here with our three grown up sons, daughter-in-law and baby granddaughter,' he said. 'It's a very tricky and tense situation with missiles and drones being intercepted above our heads. It's very noisy at times.'
Flights were initially suspended but have gradually begun to resume, although some travellers are still facing difficulties returning home.
Berry said the situation appears to be improving but remains uncertain. 'The Dubai defence system is doing a great job. It's a scary time and we're hopeful to return home soon,' he added.
