Tempur-Pedic, part of Tempur Sealy International, has announced a new collaboration with the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) aimed at understanding why many Americans are not getting the sleep they need. By combining national survey data with real-world sleep insights, the initiative seeks to deliver one of the most comprehensive analyses of the factors disrupting sleep patterns in the United States.

The project brings together NSF's large-scale research on sleep habits with millions of nights of sleep data collected through Tempur-Pedic's Sleeptracker-AI® system, which has been providing nightly insights since its launch in 2019. By comparing how individuals report their sleep with data-driven measurements of sleep behaviour and quality, the collaboration aims to provide a clearer understanding of the environmental, behavioural and physiological factors affecting rest.
The Sleeptracker-AI platform, integrated into Tempur-Pedic products through a partnership with Fullpower-AI®, uses sensors placed under the mattress to monitor key physiological signals. These include heart rate, breathing rate, micro-movements and sleep stages, all without requiring users to wear a device.
"Understanding sleep means combining what people feel with what the data show," said Brent Pfister, SVP of Brand Management and New Product Development at Tempur Sealy. "Tempur-Pedic has invested heavily in advancing sleep technology to help people better understand their nightly rest. The Sleeptracker-AI system uses under mattress sensors to track detailed physiological signals including heart rate, breathing rate, micro movements, and sleep stages without requiring users to wear a device."
The technology has been developed in collaboration with Stanford University's Division of Sleep Medicine, under the scientific leadership of Dr. Clete Kushida, and has been validated using established clinical methodologies. According to the company, the platform has demonstrated reliable measurement of sleep stages and continuity, distinguishing it from many consumer sleep technologies currently available.
Tempur Sealy and Fullpower extended their partnership in 2025 with a multi-year agreement running through 2036, securing exclusive rights for Tempur Sealy to embed Sleeptracker-AI technology in its products worldwide.
Findings from the joint research initiative are expected to provide new insights into what disrupts sleep and how consumers and the sleep industry can better support healthy sleep routines.
In addition, Tempur-Pedic will serve as a gold sponsor of the National Sleep Foundation's Sleep Awareness Week®, taking place 8–14 March, an annual campaign promoting the importance of sleep for health and wellbeing.
