In Kokapet, Hyderabad, Studio Nilasha has completed Grigio Verde, a 6,000 sq ft villa that boldly embraces a monochrome palette of black, grey and white. Led by founder and principal designer Nilasha, the residence challenges conventional perceptions of dark interiors, demonstrating how restraint, texture and materiality can create warmth and depth rather than austerity.

Conceived in response to a client brief for a minimal, masculine home, the project brings together stone, concrete, wood and metal in a carefully balanced composition. Deep marble flooring, textured grey concrete walls and 13-foot-high exposed ceilings establish a calm, architectural envelope. Strategic openings were introduced early in the design process to draw in natural light and greenery, allowing the cool greys to shift subtly throughout the day and creating a dialogue between interior and landscape.
The layout unfolds with a seamless flow between informal living, kitchen and dining spaces, while a staircase with a black perforated metal railing becomes a sculptural focal point, set against a display of the homeowner's motorcycle. Ochre and rust upholstery punctuate the living areas, adding warmth to the restrained base palette, while charcoal cabinetry and dark stone surfaces reinforce the home's contemporary edge.

In the master bedroom, walnut flooring and African blackwood panelling introduce richer natural tones, softening the concrete backdrop to create a tranquil retreat. Upstairs, guest bedrooms maintain the minimal language, allowing linen accents in tan and sage to subtly define each space. The daughters' room offers a playful departure, with a camp-inspired bunk design and a hand-painted mural in grey, blue and teal, gently animated with dusty rose details.
Photographed by Ishita Sitwala and styled by Samir Wadekar, Grigio Verde stands as a refined exploration of monochrome living, serene, textural and quietly expressive, embodying both the studio's design ethos and the family's lifestyle.
