Sahrai Milano presents The Deeper Capsule Collection

Sahrai Milano presents The Deeper Capsule Collection, a new collaboration with Italian artist Lorena D'Ilio that transforms the rug into a powerful narrative surface reflecting on environmental fragility and collective responsibility.

Rooted in over 190 years of craftsmanship, Sahrai Milano joins forces with D'Ilio to translate the artist's twenty-year research into three hand-knotted rugs crafted from natural silk and New Zealand wool. Originally conceived as collages of reclaimed fabrics and photography, the works have been reinterpreted through Sahrai's textile expertise, acquiring material depth and permanence. In this collection, the rug becomes more than a decorative object; it is conceived as an heirloom and a cultural statement, challenging the logic of disposability.

The collection features two monumental pieces, The Golden Jeans and No One's Land, each measuring 500 x 180 cm, alongside Dancing in the Ocean (300 x 250 cm). In No One's Land, D'Ilio reflects on the vast expanses of ocean beyond national jurisdiction, evoking both beauty and vulnerability through suspended imagery and vibrant tones. The Golden Jeans addresses themes of overconsumption and environmental neglect, transforming a symbol of 1980s excess into a lasting artefact shaped by time and craftsmanship. With Dancing in the Ocean, the rug becomes immersive, inviting viewers to traverse a textured landscape that evokes ocean depths and encourages reflection on humanity's ecological footprint.

Currently on view at Sahrai Milano's showroom at Via Manzoni 45 in Milan, The Deeper Capsule Collection underscores a shared vision between artist and manufacturer: that high craftsmanship is not only a productive act, but a cultural one, capable of preserving meaning, memory and responsibility through enduring design.
