Kitchens as integrated ecosystems
Snaidero describes the kitchen as the technological and cultural heart of the home, evolving into an intelligent hub that integrates appliances, design, architecture, and lifestyle. "Appliances are no longer standalone elements," he explains. "They are part of a unified ecosystem that interacts with family life and the surrounding environment."
Material innovation and aesthetic trends
Environmental awareness is driving a return to tactile, extraordinary finishes, particularly in ceramics. The Abitum project exemplifies this trend with durable, warm-toned ceramic countertops that harmonise open-plan kitchens with adjoining living areas. While outdoor kitchens remain a high-end niche, interest in extending the kitchen experience outdoors is growing.
Intellectual property and international trade
Awareness of intellectual property protection is rising. Through collaboration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Assarredo Kitchen Group and the European Furniture Industries Confederation (EFIC) provide guidance and training on trademarks, designs, and regulatory compliance. This support is particularly critical for exporters navigating complex legal environments and eco-design regulations.
Export markets and industry outlook
Italy and Germany remain the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality kitchens, yet export markets have faced challenges due to tariffs and economic uncertainty, particularly in the U.S. and France. Snaidero expects a positive rebound in 2026 but emphasizes that companies must adapt to volatile conditions.
Looking ahead: Salone contract
The interview highlights the upcoming Salone Contract 2027, spearheaded by OMA architects Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten. This initiative will explore innovations in contract furniture and environments, reflecting the evolving global ecosystem of design and living.
Edi Snaidero's vision underscores the Italian kitchen sector's blend of tradition, innovation, and global relevance, positioning EuroCucina as a hub of technological, aesthetic, and cultural leadership.
