Children’s cot and mattress blocked at UK border over safety concerns

A children's cot and mattress imported from China has been rejected at the UK border due to serious safety risks, authorities have confirmed.

The product, sold under the brand Beedome, consists of a cot frame and mattress. Officials highlighted that the internal stuffing is easily accessible through a zip, creating a "high risk of choking." The Office for Product Safety and Standards warned that "if a child accesses this filling, they may place it in their mouth and choke."

In addition to the choking hazard, regulators noted that the cot and mattress require improvements in marking and labelling to meet safety standards.

The Office confirmed that the product "does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005," and as a result, the import has been officially rejected at the border.

This action reflects ongoing scrutiny of imported children's products, emphasising the importance of compliance with UK safety standards to prevent hazards in the domestic market.

The incident serves as a reminder to retailers and importers that stringent testing and labelling are essential when bringing children's furniture and bedding into the UK.
