The research shows that one in three furniture carts valued at more than $1,000 are abandoned, often due to unexpected costs, complicated checkout processes, and unclear delivery timelines. High-ticket items are particularly sensitive to shipping fees and scheduling, which many consumers cite as the deciding factor in abandoning purchases.
Experts note that trust and transparency are key. Retailers that provide clear pricing, flexible delivery options and proactive communication see significantly lower abandonment rates. 'Consumers want to understand exactly what they are paying for and when their furniture will arrive,' said an industry analyst. 'Ambiguity in either area drives hesitation and lost sales.'
The study also identifies mobile optimisation and user experience as critical factors. Shoppers increasingly browse on smartphones, but sites that are not mobile-friendly or that require complex navigation see higher abandonment. Additionally, providing financing options and visualisation tools for furniture placement can encourage completion.
Furniture retailers are urged to prioritise these factors to convert high-value carts into completed sales. Addressing transparency, delivery logistics and digital experience is seen as essential for maintaining competitiveness in a market where average basket sizes are rising but conversion remains a challenge.
