Tempur Sealy International has successfully recertified its Richmond and Los Angeles manufacturing facilities under the Sleep Products Sustainability Program (SP2), run by the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC). This achievement makes Tempur Sealy the only manufacturer to earn SP2 certification twice, highlighting its ongoing commitment to sustainable operations.

The SP2 program, introduced in 2019, is voluntary and designed to help mattress manufacturers systematically reduce environmental impacts by analyzing waste streams, implementing best practices, and tracking progress. Both facilities demonstrated significant improvements in recycling and waste management. The Los Angeles plant recycled 91.5% of all waste in 2024, up from 77% before SP2 certification, and pioneered the use of electric trucks to reduce emissions. Richmond recycled 85.5% of its waste, up from 80%, while also increasing paper recycling efforts, totalling over 1.3 million pounds recycled that year.
Certification required teams at each site to examine environmental impacts, train employees in sustainable practices, and optimise operations, including recycling bin placement and energy-saving modes on equipment.
Alison A. Keane, president of MRC and the International Sleep Products Association, praised the company's achievements, stating that Tempur Sealy demonstrates sustainability as a true, long-term commitment rather than a passing trend. David Blackburn, VP of U.S. Sealy Assembly Operations, emphasised that the certification validates the facilities' ongoing efforts to reduce waste and improve recycling, reinforcing Tempur Sealy's leadership in environmentally responsible manufacturing.
The SP2 recertification reflects a broader industry focus on sustainability, with Tempur Sealy leading the way in demonstrating measurable progress and environmental accountability.
