UK furniture google searches surge in January as consumers prepare for spring

January 2026 saw a marked increase in online searches for furniture across the UK, according to Google data analysed by Big Furniture Group. Interest peaked on 3 January with a full search index score of 100 for general furniture queries. The January Furniture Show drove a 450% surge in related searches, while garden furniture searches rose sharply in anticipation of spring.

Specific trends included:

  • Garden furniture: 'Ikea garden furniture' up 200%, 'garden furniture set' up 90%.
  • Bedroom furniture: 'Space saving bedroom furniture' and 'Ikea Pax wardrobe' were among the top queries, with five peak search days.
  • Dining furniture: Searches for 'Argos dining chairs' and 'swivel dining chairs' spiked, peaking on 4 January.
  • Sofas: 'Tiffany extendable sofa' searches rose 600%, while 'KC Sofas Lincoln' surged 3,650%.
  • Flooring & carpets: Flooring searches peaked on 24 January, carpets on 25 January, with notable increases for Sheffield Flooring Solutions (2,000%) and carpet tiles (3,150%).
  • Other furniture categories, including mattresses, living room, and dining furniture, also saw significant search activity.

The report highlights that tracking consumer online search behaviour can inform promotions, inventory planning, and marketing strategies, giving retailers insights into demand patterns ahead of seasonal peaks.
