While sleet during the last days of the fair made visitor traffic from the north somewhat difficult, Patrick Janssens of Janssens Oriënt Tilburg looks back on the Spring Trade Days at De Woonindustrie with a positive outlook. The Tilburg-based carpet specialist observes a clear shift in the market: the line between indoors and outdoors is blurring, and color is gaining ground over the traditional grey and beige.
"We certainly shouldn't be dissatisfied with how the event went," says Patrick Janssens on the closing day in Nieuwegein. Despite the weather conditions that affected the country on the third and fourth days of the exhibition, the atmosphere at the Tilburg exhibitor's stand was excellent. This time, the focus was on three pillars: outdoor, color, and material innovation.

Outdoor as a Strategic Growth Segment
One of the main trends Janssens Oriën Tilburg is capitalizing on is the continued popularity of outdoor living. "Suppliers of canopies can hardly keep up with demand, with waiting times of up to four months. We see this directly reflected in the requests we receive," Janssens explains.
Outdoor carpets are no longer just a by-product but a serious segment within the collection. The company is therefore seeing a significant increase in collaboration with players in the garden and outdoor sector.
Showroom Colours
Although relatively basic shades like taupe and grey still dominate the market, Janssens observes a growing boldness among retailers and consumers. Terra, green, and pink are making inroads. "We offer all the colours, but time will tell which ones will be the real hits of 2026. By the end of the year, we'll know who has chosen the ideal colour," he jokes.
New this season is the vintage wool collection. Whereas this style was previously often made in cotton-chenille, Janssens now opts for wool. The advantage for consumers is its natural resistance to dirt, making wool a practical choice for heavily used rooms.
Looking ahead to the rest of 2026, the entrepreneur is optimistic, particularly regarding international activities. "We are still making strides across the border and are fully developing our presence there. Of course, there are market challenges, but things are definitely moving in the right direction."
With the introduction of the 'Love Collection' (polyester rugs, available in three pile heights) – a nod to the approaching Valentine's Day – Janssens demonstrates that, above all, he remains flexible: "You ask, we adapt."
