Home interiors in 2026 are set to move decisively away from rigid trend cycles and toward comfort, individuality and longevity, according to insights gathered from 100 designers and tastemakers. Rather than short-lived aesthetics, the coming year is expected to favour styles that feel personal, layered and rooted in tradition.

A renewed interest in Americana is emerging, driven partly by the United States approaching its 250th anniversary. Designers point to American-made furniture, folk art, quilt motifs and primitive antiques as central to this shift, described as a move toward "American traditional design" rather than European-inspired looks.

Whimsy is also returning, with ruffles, fringe, hand-painted furniture and playful patterns reflecting a broader appetite for joy and self-expression. This trend aligns with what designers describe as a period of greater individuality and creative freedom.

Earth tones will dominate colour palettes, with soft greens, terracotta, worn reds and browns reinforcing a grounded, natural feel. Wood accents are making a strong comeback throughout the home, contributing texture and a sense of history.

Metal finishes are diversifying as silver and nickel re-emerge alongside brass. In kitchens, inspiration is shifting toward European country styles, particularly Belgian influences, favouring patina, texture and a lived-in aesthetic over polished minimalism.
