30-Year-old New York furniture brand files chapter 7 bankruptcy

A New York-area furniture retailer, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will be liquidated. The voluntary filing, submitted on 2 February 2026 in the Southern District of New York, lists assets of $1–10 million and liabilities of $10–50 million, with 50–99 creditors named.

The company, which rebranded from Country Willow to Willow Furniture & Design in 2024, will have its remaining assets sold by a trustee to satisfy creditors. Planned Furniture Promotions may manage liquidation events.

Industry analysts cite declining consumer confidence and cautious spending as key factors affecting furniture retailers. Discretionary purchases such as home furnishings have been deferred amid economic uncertainty and concerns over inflation and job security. The trend mirrors broader challenges in the sector, with other chains, including Circle Furniture and Kasala Modern Home Furnishings, recently closing stores or entering bankruptcy.

Experts note that furniture sales are closely linked to housing market activity. While some anticipate a potential rebound if interest rates continue to drop and housing inventory rises, the timing is unlikely to benefit Country Willow. The company joins a growing list of U.S. furniture retailers struggling in a climate of "value-driven consumption" and cautious household budgets.
