Olaf Heide, Co-Founder, shares the vision behind Design for Life

‘Clients are involved before products go into production’

Olaf Heide, Co-Founder of Design for Life (DFL), is redefining what luxury means in interiors. Together with Dutch Co-Founder Cor Esmeijer, he combines decades of complementary expertise into one shared vision. Where Cor brings strategic insight, financial knowledge, marketing expertise and an international network, Olaf contributes experience in production, factory management and team leadership.

United by the same belief, they challenge the idea that luxury must be expensive or exclusive. For them, luxury is about quality, comfort and timeless design, accessible to a broad audience. The company produces furniture, including chairs, tables and couches for residential and commercial interiors.

Luxury behind a price tag
'Luxury is often mistaken for high cost,' Olaf explains. 'For us, it's about design that enhances everyday life without an intimidating price.'

This philosophy runs through every layer of the company. Cor's strategic direction and market understanding guide positioning, while Olaf's operational expertise supports quality control, production efficiency and consistent standards. From material selection to final finish, the process is closely managed. As a result, they produce pieces intended for everyday use rather than display.

Competitive edge
Unlike many competitors, DFL doesn't require minimum orders. This strategic choice allows smaller retailers and projects, architects, designers, hospitality and buyers to access high-quality products without excess stock risk.

Each order is produced after being placed, with lead times of just 8–10 weeks. Olaf's factory leadership ensures efficiency and precision, while Cor's commercial oversight keeps the process lean and customer-focused. This flexibility builds trust and long-term loyalty.

Clarity, collaboration and product development
Transparency is a shared priority. Clients are kept informed from production through delivery, with clear communication, stable pricing and defined processes forming the basis of cooperation. The company emphasizes long-term partnerships rather than short-term sales, aiming to support clients throughout planning, ordering and after-sales stages.

Product development follows a similarly collaborative approach. Concepts are shared with clients for feedback before final production, allowing adjustments based on practical needs and market input. Cor monitors market direction and positioning, while Olaf translates ideas into manufacturable designs aligned with production capabilities. Each year, five to ten new products are introduced, balancing innovation with practicality and continuity.

Distinct position in a crowded market
In a competitive market, DFL positions itself through the combination of strategic planning and operational execution.

'We offer a luxury experience that respects budgets while maintaining standards and personal commitment,' Olaf says, reflecting the founders' shared approach.

For clients seeking consistent quality without elevated costs, Design for Life presents itself as a partner focused on durability, comfort and usability in everyday interiors. The company's approach centers on steady growth, repeat collaboration and designs intended to remain relevant over time rather than follow short-term trends.
