January 2026 saw a surge in new business activity within the UK furnishing sector, with a total of 480 new company incorporations recorded across retail, manufacturing, and wholesale segments, according to Companies House data.

Furniture and carpet retail led the way with 132 new registrations, while 93 new manufacturers joined the market, including 73 furniture manufacturers and four carpet producers. Additional filings included 107 floor and wall covering businesses, five mattress manufacturers, and 14 soft furnishings companies.
The wholesale sector contributed 51 new incorporations, and 73 agents involved in the sale of furniture and household goods were also registered. Furniture repair businesses added 21 new filings. This wave of new companies reflects continued entrepreneurial interest in the UK furnishing industry and indicates opportunities for growth across multiple sub-sectors.
