Lighting company announces 900 job cuts worldwide

Lighting company Signify has announced 900 job cuts worldwide. Top executive As Tempelman explained the move in the context of the recently released annual results, citing challenging market conditions. The reorganisation is expected to generate cost savings of €180 million.

In October, Signify still had over 28,000 employees. The company has already implemented several restructurings in recent years; in 2023, for example, around 1,000 jobs were cut, almost half of them in the Netherlands.

Tempelman stresses that 2026 will be a transitional year for the company. "Our immediate priority is to perform better in a difficult market by strengthening our commercial and operational excellence and cost efficiency," the top executive said.

With this move, Signify aims to make the organisation more agile and strengthen its position in an industry characterised by strong price pressure and changing demand patterns.

The announced round of redundancies follows previous measures and is part of a broader strategy to increase efficiency and structurally reduce operating costs, while maintaining the company's focus on innovation and sustainable lighting solutions.
