A family-run mattress manufacturer based in Yorkshire, has reported a 27% sales increase within three weeks of joining the online marketplace Temu earlier this year. The growth has enabled the company to expand its workforce locally and introduce a new training and employment programme for armed forces veterans.

Founded in 2014, The Sleep People produces mattresses and bedding under brands including The Foam People, Extreme Comfort, and Starlight Beds, manufacturing more than 1,400 mattresses daily and generating annual turnover exceeding £20m. Rising material costs, competition from low-priced imports, and the UK's cost-of-living pressures prompted the company to explore new sales channels abroad.
Managing Director Mike Worden said Temu provided "access to a much broader base of shoppers," allowing the business to reach new customers while refining its product range and targeting regions more effectively. The platform's global presence, now in over 90 markets, has become central to The Sleep People's UK and international sales strategy.
The boost in orders has also supported the company's social initiatives, including donations of over 500,000 food items to local food banks and thousands of mattresses to families in need. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand into premium sleep accessories and sustainable materials while maintaining its commitment to local communities.
