The future of interiors is increasingly defined by how technology recedes rather than dominates. As designers and specifiers look for solutions that support atmosphere, sustainability, and emotional connection, new formats are quietly reshaping how walls communicate. One emerging category sits at the intersection of digital innovation and visual calm, where art becomes flexible, energy-conscious, and deeply architectural.
Enrico Müller, Managing Director of PocketBook and its InkPoster brand, shares how nearly two decades of experience in e-reading technology has evolved into a new approach to digital art for interiors.

From e-reading to ambient design
PocketBook was founded in 2007 in Lugano, Switzerland, with a focus on E Ink technology, software, and complete e-reading ecosystems. Over 18 years, this expertise led to the development of devices designed around longevity, usability, and a paper-like visual experience.
'We have always believed in E Ink as a calm and human technology,' Enrico explains. 'It looks like paper, behaves like paper, and fits naturally into everyday life.'
That philosophy now extends beyond reading. Launched in 2025, InkPoster applies the same principles to large-format digital art. 'For many years, the idea of using ePaper in interiors existed,' Enrico says. 'What was missing was a colour technology capable of working at scale.'

Redefining digital art for interiors
The introduction of E Ink Spectra enabled InkPoster to move into the interior space in a meaningful way. Unlike conventional screens, InkPoster emits no Blue Light, produces no heat, and consumes energy only when the image changes.
'This allows the frame to operate for up to one year on a single charge,' Enrico notes. 'It remains completely silent, glare-free, and cordless.'
For interior professionals, this changes how digital art behaves within a space. 'InkPoster is designed to be elegant and unobtrusive,' he says. 'It respects the ambience rather than drawing attention to the technology itself.'
The InkPoster App further supports this flexibility. 'You can update artwork in seconds,' Enrico adds. 'By using images from a camera roll, spaces can be personalised easily, whether that's a hospitality environment, an office, or a private home.'

Why interiors are a natural next step
For PocketBook, the interior and design sector represents a logical extension of its long-term vision. 'E Ink technology will continue to expand into new spheres,' Enrico explains. 'Interiors are about atmosphere, balance, and comfort, which aligns perfectly with paper-like displays.'
He sees InkPoster as a response to both sustainability concerns and visual overload. 'We are offering an alternative to LCD and OLED-based art TVs,' he says. 'Digital art does not need to glow to feel alive.'
This commitment is reflected in PocketBook's continued investment in the category, including the acquisition of Belgian ePaper art frame brand Ionnyk. 'It underlines that we see this as a long-term product category,' Enrico adds.
Ambiente and the architectural scale of art
At Ambiente, PocketBook and InkPoster are presenting the most ambitious expression of this vision. 'Visitors will experience how digital art can work at architectural scale,' Enrico says.
The centrepiece is InkPoster Duna, featuring an A1-size colour E Ink screen and designed in collaboration with Pininfarina. 'It merges large-format colour ePaper with Italian design heritage,' he explains. 'From the precision-engineered aluminium frame to the stitched Alcantara, every detail contributes to the presence of the piece.'
Alongside Duna, the Tela and Affresco series demonstrate how different sizes and design approaches can integrate into varied interiors. 'Whether it's a compact art wall or a large open space, there is a solution that feels intentional,' Enrico notes.
Looking ahead, Enrico sees this as the beginning of a broader shift. 'A new era of sustainable, paper-like digital art has begun,' he reflects. 'These products bring technology into interiors in a thoughtful and environmentally conscious way, while maintaining strong aesthetic values.'
