"A company that can not be trusted"

Union condemns Amazon following announcement of global job cuts

The GMB union has criticised Amazon after the company confirmed plans to cut 16,000 roles worldwide. The union, representing more than 620,000 UK workers across multiple sectors, highlighted that the UK impact will be limited to corporate positions, affecting hundreds of employees at Amazon's offices in London and Manchester.

Rachel Fagan, GMB organiser, said, "Amazon is showing itself for what it is; a company that cannot be trusted to do the right thing by working people in the UK. Now is the time for decision makers to recognise Amazon as a company fixated on eye-watering profits at the expense of workers and local people."

Amazon stated that as of December 2025, it employed approximately 75,000 people in the UK across sites and offices of varying sizes. The company referred to a blog post by Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, for further details of the planned restructuring.

The announcement follows wider scrutiny of tech and retail giants' employment practices amid ongoing cost-cutting and global restructuring efforts.
