Domestic demand was a key driver, with the non-residential sector growing 1.8% to €32.9 billion, offsetting the gradual decline of some tax incentives for residential renovations. Exports remained largely stable at €19.3 billion (+0.4%), representing 37% of total turnover. Performance varied by market: Germany showed positive growth, while the United States struggled under tariff-related pressures, and France remained weak. Other markets, including the United Kingdom (+4.2%), the Netherlands (+8.5%), Spain (+2.3%), and the UAE (+3.9%), contributed to a diversified international presence.
Claudio Feltrin, President of FederlegnoArredo, emphasised the importance of market monitoring and adaptability: "Our companies maintained presence even in challenging markets, seizing signs of recovery, particularly in Germany and the UK. Greater controls on imports are crucial to ensure fair competition and consumer safety."
Sector breakdowns highlight resilience:
- Furnishing macrosystem: €27.7 billion (+0.6%), with domestic production up 2.1% and exports slightly down (-0.8%).
- Wood macrosystem (including wood trade): €24.5 billion (+2%), driven by rising prices and export recovery (+3.8%).
- Kitchens: €3 billion (+0.5%), domestic demand +3.4%, exports -5%.
- Bathroom furniture: €4.3 billion (+1.5%), domestic market +2.2%, exports +0.5%, with
- Germany showing early signs of recovery.
Feltrin noted that the Salone del Mobile.Milano remains a strategic platform for the sector, providing companies with opportunities to consolidate positions, engage new markets, and strengthen international visibility.
Looking ahead, the Federation calls for vigilance in monitoring critical markets, safeguarding Italian manufacturing standards, and enforcing stricter compliance controls for imported goods to protect competitiveness and sustainability.
