Screwfix entered the Republic of Ireland in 2019, opening more than 40 stores and creating nearly 500 jobs. In 2022, the retailer expanded into France, opening a distribution centre and 35 stores to date. In 2024, it introduced the compact 'Screwfix City' format to offer greater convenience for tradespeople in urban areas.
CEO John Mewett said, "We're delighted to have opened our 1,000th Screwfix store. Since our first opening in 2005, we've continued to provide the ultimate convenience for tradespeople and build on our success in the UK to expand into the Republic of Ireland and France."
Looking ahead, the company aims to open over 1,000 stores across the UK and Ireland, with potential for up to 600 stores in France. Mewett thanked staff for their role in achieving what he described as an "amazing milestone."
