Norm Architects and collaborators explore the space between body and nature

Between Body and Nature is a new artistic collaboration between Atelier Plateau, Sørensen Leather, and Norm Architects, examining the evolving relationship between human presence, materiality, and landscape. Presented as a meeting point between art, design and architecture, the project reflects a shared interest in sensory experience, craftsmanship and material awareness.

Rooted in the belief that the human connection to nature is both bodily and perceptual, Nomadic Dialogues explores how leather and driftwood can form spatial structures that invite touch, rest and contemplation. Leather is approached as a nomadic material, adaptable, time-worn and deeply embedded in human history, while driftwood, shaped by wind and water, introduces an organic counterpoint. Together, the materials form quiet, poetic structures that balance function with expression.

Central to the project is TERRA® leather, developed by Norm Architects in collaboration with Sørensen Leather and reinterpreted by Atelier Plateau. Selected for its softness, durability and sensorial depth, the leather features muted, nature-inspired hues and a velvety surface that responds gently to the raw character of driftwood. Over time, each hide develops a natural patina, reinforcing the project's focus on material ageing and lived experience.

In Atelier Plateau's sculptural compositions, leather and wood come together as elements designed for in habitation. The works invite sitting, resting and physical engagement, while responding intuitively to their surroundings. Light, texture and form interact subtly, creating a calm dialogue between material and space.

Photography by Atelier Plateau documents the project's tactile and atmospheric qualities, emphasising the balance between structure and softness, craft and nature. Together, the collaborators propose a renewed dialogue between body and environment, one shaped by care, restraint and a shared sensitivity to material presence.
