The Central Jutland-based company, Stouby Furniture, founded in 1902 and owned by chief executive Carsten Mortensen since 2009, says it is actively interested in opportunities that can strengthen long-term competitiveness rather than drive growth for its own sake.

Mortensen said the past year's bankruptcies and restructurings have created openings for financially resilient businesses. While parts of the industry have struggled with falling demand, rising costs and weak consumer confidence, Stouby has maintained profitability and views the current climate as one that could support strategic partnerships. Any deal, he stressed, would need to be mutually beneficial, whether through combining strengths or becoming part of a larger group with greater scale.

The company has previous experience of acquisitions, including design brand Raun and manufacturer HJ Møbler, and is open to both buying and selling if it improves the overall setup. The approach reflects wider industry trends, with around seven furniture sector transactions recorded in 2025, driven by regulatory pressure, compliance demands and tighter economics, particularly for smaller manufacturers.

Stouby recently closed its 2024/25 financial year with a pre-tax profit of DKK 422,009 and revenue growth of more than 12%, marking its 15th consecutive profitable year. The business expects to deliver a similar result in the year ahead as it assesses opportunities in a consolidating market.
